Listening Strategies

1.    Pay attention: Get rid of anything distracting and listen carefully to the person speaking.
2.    Ask for more information: If you don't understand something, ask the person to explain it more.
3.    Say it in your own words: Repeat what the person said in a way you can understand.
4.    Write down important things: Make notes about what the person said, so you don't forget it later.
5.    Watch how they say it: Pay attention to how the person is speaking, like the tone of their voice or how they move their body.
6.    Let them finish: Wait until the person has finished speaking before you say anything or ask questions.
7.    Show that you're listening: Nod your head or make other signs to show that you're paying attention.
8.    Be willing to learn: Keep an open mind and try to understand what the person is saying, even if you don't agree.
